Common Skin Problems in Teenagers in Chandigarh

Many beauty queens hail from this city beautiful making us proud being  the residents of such a wonderful place. Youngsters are very beauty conscious .Most common skin problems in young population are :

1.  Acne and post acne scars : Most common in teenagers and leaves hyperpigmentation and disfiguring scars which are socially unacceptable.
2. Freckles and lentigenes : Are  Very common in Youngsters. They may be familial .Most common distribution being the malar area of face are really bothersome.
3. Hyperpigmentation (Perioral and periorbital)  :  is commonly seen in youngsters. It may occur commonly due to Fe deficiency anemia and stress.
4. Acquired melanocytic Naevi : are another cosmetic problem for which surgical removal is done.
5. Sunburns  and Polymorphic light eruption :  Are very common in youngsters due to sun exposure.
6. Contact Dermatitis to cosmetics, lipsticks, Perfumes , hairsprays.
7. Nail discoloration and brittleness due to nail paints
8. Ingrowing toe nail : Because of wearing tight shoes
9. Vitiligo : is becoming very common in teenagers
10. Warts : is a superficial viral infection caused by HPV virus.
11. Tinea infection : is  a fungal infection involving hair, nail, skin and mucosal membranes
12. Sexually transmitted diseases : Is  a major concern in youngsters. Because of social stigmata, they do not disclose their problems. They should be taught about safe sex.
13. Excessive sweating of hands and feet
14. Hand eczema
15. Psoriasis – spontaneous scaling of skin
16. Seborrhic dermatitis/ Dandruff
17. Scabies and Pediculosis: a mite infestation which is very common in hostlers
18. Hirsutism and PCOD – unwanted facial hair, acne, irregular periods, obesity
